Add an Objective or Tactic/Action Item Within Your Strategy

An Objective is one level above the final level within your Strategic Plan. Use an Objective if you have entities associated with it that will fall underneath this Objective’s umbrella. If not, enter Tactics or Action items (the final level within your Strategic Plan).

Note: Once you have added an Objective to a Strategy, you cannot add Tactics/Action Items at the same level. Once you have added a Tactic/Action Item to a Strategy, you cannot add Objectives at the same level.

To add either an Objective (another layer of categorization) or Tactic/Action Item (final layer of your plan):

  1. Access the desired Segment within your Strategic Plan using one of these methods:
From the Dashboard, click the name of your Strategic Plan from the My Strategic Plans widget and then either access your Segment by clicking the Segment name in the pie chart or from the Segment widget. In this example, we are accessing Human Resources segment.  AddNewStrategy-1.png

  4. When the New objective/Tactic window opens, choose one of the following:
    • Click Objective to create a new objective.
    • Click Tactic/Action Item to create a new Tactic/Action item.

Note: If you are creating a new Tactic/Action Item underneath an Objective that already exists, you must click on the Objective name first.

  5. If you are creating a new Objective, complete these steps. If you are creating a new Tactic/Action Item, proceed to the next step.
    1. Enter a Name for your Objective.
    2. Press the Tab key on your computer to autofill the tag for your Objective.
    3. Enter a description for your Objective.
    4. Enter any additional categorization tags that will make this Objective easily searchable. Press the Return key after each entry.

Categorization Tags are key words that you can add to entities within the Strategic Plan to make them easier to group and find. For example, you could assign the tag finance to all items related to Finance initiatives. You can then easily locate all Strategic Plan entities with that tag by searching for the tag name, or by clicking on the tag’s link while viewing an entity.

    5. To change the owner, click the Select Owner drop-down.
    6. Click Publish if you are finished or Save as draft to save the Objective without publishing to your Strategy. Click Cancel to delete this Objective.

    6. Select the priority for this Tactic/Action Item.
    7. Select the sensitivity for this Tactic/Action Item.
    8. If necessary, revise the start date for this Tactic/Action Item.

    10. To change the owner, click the Select Owner drop-down.
    11. Click Publish if you are finished or Save as draft to save the Tactic/Action Item without publishing to your Strategy. Click Cancel to delete this Tactic/Action Item.

Note: After you click Publish, you need to go back into your Tactic/Action Item to change the health and status bar (color code). These color codes then automatically flow up to the higher portions of your Strategic Plan to provide an overall health based on the codes you set within your Tactics/Action Items.

Note: You will enter the Closed Date to close out this Tactic/Action Item upon completion.
